THE NEW YORK STATE ADAPTATION & INNOVATION AWARDS
The Practitioners Network designed the awards process in response to communities asking what is possible. The process is focused on highlighting examples of climate adaptation that are already delivering results on the ground and making them visible, tangible, and scalable. Featuring examples of ‘adaptation well done’ in New York State, the awards highlight projects that demonstrate outcomes in practice across different scales, geographies, and resource contexts. They elevate work that is reducing risk, strengthening systems, and improving quality of life for communities. We facilitate this process in partnership with multidisciplinary partners to help communities envision the kinds of projects they can design and advocate for, understand what approaches are feasible, and anticipate and address implementation challenges based on real-world examples from within the state.
SITE VISITS & FIELD STUDIES
The Network creates opportunities for members to experience climate adaptation projects firsthand through site visits and field studies. As part of our annual Fall Convening, participants visit local projects to learn directly from practitioners, explore innovative approaches, and interact with examples of innovative partnerships.
Each summer, the Network also hosts an annual Field Study to a different region of New York. These immersive trips give members the opportunity to explore adaptation efforts beyond our regular convening locations, build relationships with local partners, gain an understanding of regions specific adaptation challenges, and take a deep dive into particular projects.
