PROJECT RESILIENCE

Flood literacy, insurance counseling, and preparedness education for across all five boroughs.

Project Resilience is built around community education, engagement, and awareness. The work focuses on flood risks, mitigation, and preparedness, with a goal of making this knowledge accessible to the New Yorkers who need it most.

Through workshops and one-on-one counseling, NHSNYC supports homeowners and renters who are navigating flood insurance challenges, flood zone questions, and the real costs of being unprepared. The focus is on under-insured and non-insured residents, low and moderate income households, and older adults on fixed incomes.

The project gives people the knowledge and skills to manage their property, understand their insurance coverage, and respond effectively during emergencies. That builds a culture of readiness in the neighborhoods that need it most.

The through-line is community and connectedness. Resilience here is not a personal task. It is a shared one.

THE OUTCOMES

Built flood-literate communities across NYC, with residents more informed on how insurance and preparedness can reduce financial loss and keep people safer in emergencies."

LOOKING AHEAD: What's next for PROJECT RESILIENCE?

In Spring and Summer 2026, Project Resilience is working toward stronger collaboration between residents, local businesses, authorities, and emergency services.

The team is also building out additional resources to help reduce the out-of-pocket costs that come with mitigation and resilience, making preparedness more accessible across income levels.
