New York State is moving forward on the Living with the Bay project to restore and revitalize Hempstead Lake Dam and Hempstead Lake State Park. By making a century old dam functional, the project will simultaneously enhance the resiliency of the greenway, boathouse, lake, and two ponds. These improvements will complement additional environmental restoration and community resiliency initiatives that are also being carried out as part of project including several educational and workforce development programs. The collective components will further resilience in Nassau County communities, while simultaneously contributing to the ecological restoration and social reactivation of the Mill River corridor. The public is invited to attend the kick off CAC meeting to learn more about the project.
