All Day
A full day in Staten Island brought together experts in geology and in the social and economic implications of buyouts and managed retreat. Accompanied by Staten Island residents, we took site visits in New Dorp, Midland Beach, and Oak Wood/Fox Beach. This was followed by a day touring sites around Jamaica Bay—Howard Beach, Spring Creek, Broad Channel and Breezy Point—where we discussed the challenges of resilient development in bay ecosystems. We were joined by New York City’s Special Initiative for Rebuilding and Resiliency (SIRR) team, who provided an update on their plans for building a more resilient city. Design Teams presented mid-process research in a forum that allowed for peer feedback.
