In response to water shortages and related hydropower energy shortages, state, federal, tribal, business, and community organizations came together to create the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, which identifies seven elements needed to achieve a balanced and comprehensive approach to water resource management and ecosystem restoration in the Yakima River Basin. This multi-benefit initiative balances water storage, conservation, and habitat restoration to ensure sufficient water supply during droughts while generating clean hydropower.
