Category: Infrastructure
Year: 2024
Funding: $390,290 awarded to the Town of Orange through the Massachusetts Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP), a $144,168 Green Communities grant and, $160,000 grant from National Grid.
At the newly constructed Fisher Elementary in the Town of Orange, Massachusetts, solar panels and accompanying battery energy storage were recently installed on the roof. Also on the schoolgrounds is an accessible, inclusive outdoor learning space near a restored pollinator garden and beaver pond. The energy system on the school’s roof will meet about 50% of the school’s total energy demand and provide emergency backup power, which enables the school to function as a regional emergency shelter. The school’s redevelopment reflects a strong commitment to regenerative principles and serves as a model for building a sustainable future for Massachusetts students and families.
