BACKGROUND
MBTA Blue Line Tunnel Airport Portal Flood Protection Project in Boston will improve flood resilience and prevent flooding in the Blue Line Tunnel portal, which connects to Logan Airport. The tunnel, which passes under Boston Harbor is particularly vulnerable to flooding during storm surges. This project includes updates to the tracks, traction power, signal and pump rooms, and the installation of flood doors that will close off the two tunnel portal openings during a flood event.
