MEADOWLANDS, SEPTEMBER UPDATE

Residents of the five municipalities in the Meadowlands area met this month with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and its consultants to suggest ideas for community amenities that may be designed into the Rebuild by Design’s New Meadowlands flood protection project. The citizen advisory group (CAG) considered amenities for three alternatives: structural flood reduction, storm water drainage improvements, or a hybrid of the two.

The potential amenities included: an ecological path, fluvial wetland park, deployable flood-risk reduction infrastructure, planted street medians, open space, street improvements, and restoration of existing ditches. The meeting, the fourth for the CAG, was organized to identify opportunities for public amenities. The project team is conducting field work for the draft environmental impact statement that is being prepared. To learn more about this project, click here.
