PARKS AS CRITICAL CLIMATE INFRASTRUCTURE: LESSONS FROM HOBOKEN
Climate Week NYC 2026
Join resilience practitioners, neighborhood organizations, and parks advocates on a tour of Hoboken’s resilient parks, hosted by the NYS Adaptation Practitioners Network, the Rise 2 Resilience Coalition, and Rebuild by Design.
Since Hurricane Sandy, the City of Hoboken has been on the forefront of rethinking their infrastructure to address flooding from increasingly frequent and heavy rainfall. Through the Rebuild by Design Competition and years of local leadership, the City now has five parks that detain and retain stormwater, reducing flooding by 88%. Additionally, the City is constructing a world class linear park on its waterfront to address storm surge. The tour will be followed with a reception and discussion to understand how parks can play a role in addressing our communities’ most pressing issues.
