Hunts Point residents spoke in favor of New York City’s new plan to generate backup electricity for the Food Distribution Center in their neighborhood. To sustain operations during flood emergencies, the City plans a combined heat and power micro-grid, which will generate backup electricity and redirect waste heat into heating and cooling portions of the center. During the hearing on the proposed plan, residents urged the City to design and fund additional flood-risk reduction and sustainability programs that lessen use of fossil fuels.
