CYO Mt. Loretto, Staten Island
The SCAPE team’s layered strategy for the South Shore of Staten Island and adjoining Raritan Bay waters introduced protective breakwaters and interior tidal flats that can dissipate wave energy and slow water, while rebuilding sustainable maritime habitat within the ecosystem. Attendees heard more about the project, engaged in its design, and shared their thoughts on potential futures for the south shore of Staten Island.
Focused specifically on the South Shore of Staten Island, communities that potentially stand to benefit from this project’s mitigating impacts include areas of Mill Creek Basin, Tottenville, Lemon Creeek, Crescent Beach, Great Kills Harbor as well as ecologically sensitive areas such as Mount Loretto.
