REBUILD BY DESIGN UNVEILS FINAL WORK IN NEW JERSEY

April 3, 2014

8:30 am – 11:00 am

On April 3, more than 1,000 people throughout the region attended exhibits and receptions at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City and the World Financial Center in Lower Manhattan that showcased the final design proposals from the ten interdisciplinary teams selected to participate in Rebuild by Design. The teams shared their work after months of research and working alongside communities across the Sandy-affected region.

At Liberty Science Center, following a reception and viewing of the ten design teams’ proposals, Henk Ovnik, Principal of Rebuild by Design and Senior Advisor to HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, led a panel discussion on the impact of Rebuild by Design and on lessons learned from the process of engaging a diverse range of stakeholders – from residents to business owners, nonprofit representatives to government officials at the local, state, and federal level. The panel featured Chris Daggett, President and CEO of the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation; Mindy Fullilove, professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Clinical Sociomedial Servicese at Columbia University Medical Center at Clumbia University, and a member of the Rebuild by Design Research Advisory Group; Holly Leicht, HUD Regional Administrator; and Marc Ferzan, Executive Director of the New Jersey Office of Recovery and Rebuilding.

Secretary Shaun Donovan of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will announce the winning proposals later this Spring.
