Site visits in the Lower East Side Manhattan, Hoboken, and Jersey City

RBD’s first site visit provided teams with background on multifamily housing and waterfront urban development, beginning with a discussion about vulnerabilities faced by public housing in flood zones at NYCHA’s Rutgers Houses, on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The teams crossed the Hudson River where they met with the mayor of Hoboken and the deputy mayor of Jersey City, along with other city staff and representatives to consider case studies in urban New Jersey. With the elected officials, the teams toured Hoboken and Jersey City to get a firsthand account of the storm’s impact on these communities.
