Program for a Climate Ready City
In 2013, Rebuild partnered with the City of Boston and the Green Ribbon Commission to create a plan to address five specific elements: climate forecast consensus, vulnerability assessment, place-based design interventions, climate preparedness governance, and resilience standards. After more than two dozen interviews with local and state agencies, partners, and non-profits, Rebuild proposed a two-stage program that would bring together stakeholders for shared research and create resilience districts.
This plan, now known as Climate Ready Boston, prioritizes places of intervention. It also complements two ongoing efforts, Boston’s Resilience Strategy and the Boston 2030 city planning project. Since the Rebuild framework was developed, other regional resiliency planning efforts have taken shape, including the recent Boston Climate Vulnerabilities & Solutions Symposium, the Boston Harbor Now Preparing for the Rising Tide research and design competitions, and the City of Cambridge’s Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment.
