BACKGROUND
To address severe flooding and urban heat risks in San Antonio, Texas, the San Antonio River Authority in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have created the San Antonio River Improvements Project. As a flood prevention initiative, it combines green infrastructure—stormwater parks and river expansions—with recreational and ecological benefits to improve flood mitigation and urban heat resilience by transforming 13 miles of the river’s urban core into a system of parks, trails, and flood control measures.
