BACKGROUND

In 2018, Moakley Park, an expansive urban greenspace located on the South Boston waterfront, went through a new design process to better serve the community and protect surrounding neighborhoods from climate change impacts. The Moakley Park Preliminary Resilience Plan proposes to transform the park into a resilient and multi-functional 21st Century community park. Using green infrastructure, planting, and water features, this plan will prevent coastal flood waters from entering the surrounding neighborhoods, manage stormwater from increased rain events, and keep the park cool on hot days. The community played an active role in the planning process and will continue to provide critical feedback on desired activities and priorities for the park moving forward.
