Affordable Climate-Resilient Housing – California Housing Partnership

The California Housing Partnership is leading the way in addressing the state’s housing affordability crisis while preparing communities for climate impacts. Through affordable housing designed to withstand heatwaves and wildfires, they are combining fire-resistant materials with energy-efficient cooling systems to keep residents safe and reduce long-term costs.

This approach doesn’t just provide homes—it creates resilience for vulnerable populations, including working families, veterans, seniors, and the disabled. To date, the Partnership has created and protected 93,000 affordable homes, many of which include retrofits to improve climate performance and reduce energy use.

By linking state climate funding streams with social needs, California has shown how infrastructure can achieve multiple benefits: safer housing, healthier living conditions, and stronger communities.

Funding: $1 billion (State support through California Climate Investments)
