Letter to the Editor: Climate Change Preparedness

Manchester Journal: In Vermont, according to the research organization, Rebuild by Design, “fourteen counties were hit hard by a historic flood in July 2023, resulting in extensive property damage, closure of 100+ roads, and significant damage to rail lines.” Between 2011-2021 seventeen climate-related disasters swept through Vermont causing billions of dollars in damages. The next disaster will be worse; the recovery costs will be higher.

Our Vermont Legislators know it is crucial to invest in climate change mitigation to stem the tide of escalating costs of extreme weather events. They also know that we must reduce carbon emissions by transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy sources. On May 10, our legislative session adjourned after a grueling but productive session passing important climate-related bills. Read more>>
