9 in 10 U.S. counties have endured extreme weather disaster in past decade. Staten Island is among the most at risk.

Staten Island Advance: Nine in every 10 counties in the United States have experienced a weather event so severe in the past decade that it was declared a federal climate disaster. Last year alone saw 20 separate billion-dollar weather catastrophes that resulted in nearly 700 deaths, a new report found.

The research, published in Rebuild by Design’s over-650-page “Atlas of Disaster,” outlines the already-significant influence of climate change and the steps needed to better prepare for destruction caused by extreme weather. Read More >>
