Through its Resilience by Design University (RBD_U) program, Rebuild is working with a number of universities, including New York University, University of Pennsylvania School of Design, and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, to build an open-sourced interdisciplinary curriculum for a fundamentals course about design and resilience planning led by a community of academics and design professionals involved in the Hurricane Sandy Design Competition.

The aim of RBD_U is to engage academics from multiple disciplines around resilience. The development of this course, like Rebuild’s own method, is an iterative process. The curriculum is designed to bring together a diverse set of interests and structured to help students understand the complex environment in which design can and should play a role in resilience. Rebuild continues to test and develop RBD_U through events, workshops, and roundtables, as well as ongoing educational activities.
