JUAREZ DESIGN BRIEF ANNOUNCEMENT

The design brief for the enhancement of Plaza Juan Gabriel in Ciudad Juarez is now out for open call. This marks the transition from the research phase of the process— where Rebuild partnered with the Gehl Institute and Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez (UACJ) to study public life in the plaza and surrounding area— to the design iteration stage, when students and architecture and design professionals will submit proposals to enhance the plaza by focusing on key elements of heat & stormwater mitigation, social cohesion, beautification, and urban connectivity. Click here to view the design brief and to register as a team.

The top three respondents to the challenge will present their designs in a public workshop designed to obtain a deeper understanding of the needs and desires of local residents, users of the plaza, and nearby businesses. The top respondents will then have a chance to improve their designs based on citizen input before it goes to a final jury. Implementation of winning designs will begin in 2018.
