LIVING BREAKWATERS MARCH 2017 UPDATE

The Living Breakwaters project passed a major milestone in March with the publication of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the project. The DEIS is a comprehensive document prepared by the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery.  The document details the rationale for the project, describes the alternatives that are being considered, including the preferred alternative, and evaluates the project’s potential impacts. In this case, the preferred alternative is the construction of the Living Breakwaters Project (Breakwaters Project) and Tottenville Shoreline Protection Project (Shoreline Project).

The DEIS is available on the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery (GOSR) website here, and is open for public comment until May 8th, 2017. A public hearing to receive public feedback on the DEIS will be held on April 26th from 7-9pm at Public School #6 at 555 Page Avenue, Staten Island. Comments can be made in writing or at the public hearing; details on how to provide comment can be found on the GOSR website

You can view the DEIS at The Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery: 25 Beaver Street, 5th Floor, New York, NY 10004 (contact by phone at (844) 969-7474) and the New York Public Library, Tottenville Branch: 7430 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10307 (contact: Information Desk (718) 984-0945) Monday – Friday 9am-5pm until the completion of the comment period.
