NYC ISSUES PROPOSED DESIGN FOR LOWER MANHATTAN COASTAL RESILIENCE PROJECT

In July, the Mayor’s Office of Recovery and Resiliency held a public meeting at Two Bridges Neighborhood Council, where it released concept designs for flood protection under the FDR drive. The proposed flood protection incorporates multiple benefits with flood gates that can “flip up” when activation is needed. Responding to community feedback, preserves views and access, distributes programing equitably, and integrates infrastructure into the public realm.

At the meeting, there were three 3D, scaled models that demonstrated how the flip-up gates would work, and participants were asked to give specific feedback on each of the three proposed designs and on the recreational activities that would be incorporated. The design would preserve the existing public exercise equipment under the FDR Drive and add space for seating and events. The City will continue to meet regularly with the community as work advances towards final design. Click here to view the presentation>>
