LONG ISLAND OCTOBER 2017 UPDATE

The New York Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery ranked restoration of marshes along the South Bay at the top of 35 potential projects to be funded through Living with the Bay program. Funding will cover the construction of multiple prioritized projects along Mill River including one prioritized by residents, a riverfront greenway. The principal scoring components for project prioritization included cost-benefit ratio, the ability to mitigate vulnerabilities and the capacity to achieve social resilience. The chosen projects include flood mitigation at East Rockaway High School, dam improvements in Hempstead Lake State Park, and dredging a pond to hold more stormwater. Learn more about other program priorities>>
